In an increasingly environmentally conscious world, many industries are seeking to adopt more sustainable practices. The audiovisual production industry is no exception. Its visibility and influence among the general public make it even more essential to adopt exemplary ecological behavior to change the behavior of everyone. In this context, the Ecoprod label presents itself as a guide for professionals seeking a more environmentally friendly approach to their professions.
The Ecoprod Label: An Initiative by the Ecoprod Association
Founded in 2009, Ecoprod was originally a collaborative initiative bringing together actors such as ADEME, AUDIENS, the Île-de-France Film Commission, DIRECCTE IDF, France Télévisions and TF1. This collective now operates as a non-profit association and brings together more than 280 players in the audiovisual sector: production companies, broadcasters, technical service providers, advertisers, schools, institutions, professional associations, etc. Its mission is to raise awareness throughout the entire audiovisual industry about the environmental impact of its activities, and also to offer concrete tools to guide professionals in their ecological transition (training, fact sheets, guides). The Ecoprod label is one of the many tools and resources developed by the association. It is a set of ecological best practices specifically tailored to the audiovisual industry, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, energy consumption, resource use, and waste generated during productions. From June 2023, AFNOR Certification (French Association for Standardization) will be responsible for auditing productions according to this framework to ensure complete independence in the awarding of the Ecoprod Label.
How to Obtain the Ecoprod Label?
The Common Eco-Criteria Framework
Concretely, the Ecoprod label is based on a common eco-criteria framework for all types of production works. It takes the form of a list of weighted criteria to follow to reduce the environmental impact of a production. Each fulfilled element entitles to a certain number of points, which, when accumulated, make it possible to determine the project's eco-production score. The Ecoprod framework is available online for free. It is possible for industry professionals to use it
